We are very excited to announce that our Dean of College of Engineering and Director of Graduate School of Sciences and Engineering, Prof. Özgür Barış Akan gets the 2020 TÜBİTAK Science Award in Engineering.
He is recognized for his outstanding research at the international level in the field of communications theory and communications network of next-generation wireless communications and sensor networks, nano/bio/molecular communications, and the Internet of Things.
In addition to many outstanding accolades so far, IEEE fellow Prof. Akan has recently received the distinguished AXA Chair in Molecular Information and Communication Technologies, given by AXA Research Fund, representing the first time such a Chair has been received in Türkiye. He is also the recipient of the European Research Council’s (ERC) Consolidator Grant with his Project “MINERVA – Communication Theoretical Foundations of Nervous System Towards BIO-inspired Nanonetworks and ICT-inspired Neuro-treatment” (2014-2019).
Prof. Dr. Akan continues his research in the Next-Generation and Wireless Communications Laboratory in the fields that will shed light on our future and have great promise, such as nanoscale, molecular communications, bio-inspired communication, 5G and THz wireless communication networks, satellite and space communications.
